473 mL can from the LCBO; one of two new beers included in Wellington's latest sampler pack. Dated Nov 13 2019 and served barely chilled.

Pours very cloudy, its golden amber-toned body rife with flecks of sediment; situated atop is one finger of loose, bubbly white head that lasts for two minutes or so before giving up the ghost. Decent lace deposition, with a filmy cap and frothy, unremarkable collar also remaining in place - looks more or less like any other 'hazy IPA'. Subtle hints of pine resin and earthiness on the nose overlap with notes of pithy grapefruit, orange and passion fruit. There are suggestions of stone fruit in the aroma, but for a self-proclaimed apricot beer they're underwhelming.

It does come through a bit better in the flavour profile, however - apricot flesh sweetness pairs nicely with notes of mandarin orange and grapefruit, whilst the wheaty, grainy malt backbone also manages to hold its own. There's more citrus and stone fruit flavour going into the finish, which also offers up hints of passion fruit and a piney, pithy hop bitterness that doesn't persist. Medium in body, with a soft, almost fluffy feel on the tongue that I found to be one of this beer's most appealing aspects; it's eminently easy to gulp back, and enjoyable enough to do so.

Final Grade: 3.7, a serviceable B grade. Wellington's record with American-style pale ales is spotty at best, and Not A Word Spoken isn't doing much to convince me otherwise. At nearly six percent, I was expecting a bit more intensity from this one - perhaps more hop juiciness, or more apricot presence, or even just plain old IPA bitterness - but alas, the end product comes off as subdued to the point of being uninteresting. That's not to say I didn't enjoy my glass or anything, and I'd say the sampler pack is totally worth a pick-up either way, but this particular brew probably isn't one I'd come running back to.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Part of the Welly Mix Pack #7 so cost came out to $3.25 CDN. Canned September 13, 2019

Appearance - Super turbid and hazy beer with a nice shade of orange. Plenty of sediment left floating in the glass and capped by a relatively short lived but noteworthy two finger head.

Smell - Apricots yes, but also some more tropical citrus of orange in behind. Fleshy apricot aroma though does pack a nice sweetness that other citrus may not have. Not the most intense aromatics by any stretch.

Taste - Quite watery apricot taste with a touch of orange and / or grapefruit bitterness- it's quite watery as well. Some mild wheaty grains in behind, but fairly one dimensional. Bitterness isn't there, but neither is the juiciness.

Mouthfeel - SMooth, good carbonation and touch drying at the end and a fairly robust body - possibly the best part of the beer.

Overall - The flavors fall short for me on this brew, one what is otherwise a pretty decent apricot focused beer - apricot is subtle especially compared to some of the usual citrus fruits, but in this case it just kind of fades away.
