In the darkest part of the year, the sun appears to stand still in the sky before slowly moving in the opposite direction, signaling longer days ahead. This captivating dark sour illuminates the senses with a combination of roasty malt flavours and lactic sourness which come together with tart cranberry to produce some unexpected and otherworldly flavours!

473 mL can from the LCBO, one of four brews in their Vol 9 mixed pack - this one is described as a 'dark sour' with cranberries. Dated Oct 16 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a deep, translucent burgundy-brown hue, producing one finger of foamy, purplish off white-tinged head that fizzles off within a couple of minutes. Some sparse flecks of lacing are left in its wake, in addition to a thin collar and some filmy patches on the surface; looks fine to me. Lactic acid and berries on the nose - lemony tartness, cranberry, raspberry and blackberry all come to mind, with faint suggestions of gritty, wheaty grains and cocoa.
Tart and fruity, with plenty of lactic acidity: notes of lemon and raspberry at the forefront, followed by suggestions of cranberry and blackberry shortly thereafter. A touch of caramelized sugars too, with shades of cranberry tannin astringency coming through nearer the finish; it concludes with black raspberry and a very subtle hint of cocoa. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation levels that gently agitate the surface of the tongue, resulting in a relatively smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. No sign of the 5.7%, and very easy to gulp back IMO, moreso than many of these fruited sours.
Final Grade: 3.94, a very respectable B+. Sun Stands Still didn't blow my mind or anything, but it's a thoroughly enjoyable cranberry beer that I'd place among Wellington's best sours to date. The back label mentions "roasty malt flavours", but they're an afterthought at best - this one is almost entirely driven by the lacto and the cranberry. I liked it well enough, and polished off my glass quickly - it's a fine inclusion in this sampler pack, and if it comes back as a single, I'm sure I'd pick it up a few more times.
