473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jul 11 2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear reddish-amber colour, kicking up a quarter-inch of sudsy, pale pink-tinged head that disintegrates within sixty seconds or so. A thin collar remains, but not for long - the surface is soon entirely barren, leaving me with a glass of something that resembles juice more than beer. Weak aroma of wheaty grains, diluted cherry juice and lemon yogurt, with a gentle whiff of vanilla.
It's pretty uneventful, to be honest - sweet cherry juice at the forefront, backed by grainy, gritty, wheaty pale malts, with sour cherry flavours coming through on the back end. Very mild lactic sourness, with a blend of vanilla and sweet & sour cherry flavours lingering briefly into the aftertaste. Fairly light in body, with assertive carbonation that scrubs the palate with each sip, resulting in a prickly, crisp texture reminiscent of a fruity soft drink. It's refreshing, and easy enough to toss back, but there's not a lot of substance here.
Final Grade: 3.55, an acceptable B grade. Wellington's Blowout isn't anything to write home about. As someone who frequently rags on vanilla beers, I really didn't detect a whole lot of that flavour here - in fact, this might be one of those instances where the vanilla was underutilized. Then again, I really doubt 'more vanilla' would've saved this one - it's just an underwhelming, rather basic kettle sour to begin with. Not necessarily a 'bad' beer, and it may be worth taking a flyer on if you're a cherry lover... but otherwise? Ehh.
