473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 8 2024 and served barely chilled. This is the 2024 Nectaron variant.
Pours a hazy golden-marmalade colour, producing two fingers of soapy, foamy white head that lasts for the better part of five minutes. A narrow ring of delicate lace clings to the glass, with a bubbly collar and some filmy wisps remaining on the surface. Stone fruit and passion fruit on the nose, with added hints of canned pineapple, wheaty grains and indeterminate citrus.
Pretty tasty, but fairly two-dimensional. The hops contribute flavours of peach and pineapple, with hints of passion fruit, wheat and lemon zest developing by mid-sip. The finish adds some grapefruit pithiness to the mix, finishing with dank, citrusy hops that impart minimal bitterness; mildly pithy, fruity aftertaste that trends off-dry. Medium in body, with potent carbonation that maintains its crispness well into the session; the smooth mouthfeel, mellow flavours and low bitterness make for an effortlessly easy quaff.
Final Grade: 3.8, a B+. Wellington's Queen of Craft IPA w/Nectaron is pretty good, but it's not going to displace their Upside IPA in my weekly rotation of pale ales. I was worried that this can's age would be a concern, but it has actually held up quite well for a six month-old IPA. No, the issue here is simply a lack of depth: the flavours that *do* come through are perfectly good, there's just not a lot of variety to go around. Worth trying once: this is a solid pale ale, it's just not an especially memorable one.

This rendition with Nectaron. Served cold into a chalice. Canned February 8, 2024.
Appearance - Very hazy golden brew with a couple fingers of white head on top. Moderate retention and a small stream of lacing at the edges.
Smell - Very tropical with peach, apricot and some grapefruit in the mix. A light wheat malt backbone.
Taste - Quite weedy and zesty with some heat. A bit of fruit but grapefruit pith, weeds and maybe a hint of mintiness. Odd for an IPA, not unpleasant, but certainly unexpected given the aroma.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, lower carbonation but a prickly finish intensified by the weedy flavors.
Overall - A decent IPA, that started off great with a beautiful appearance and a great nose. The weediness here is a let down, but nonetheless a beer worth trying as most of Wellington's lineup is quite solid.
