473 mL can from the LCBO; dated May 10 2023 and served slightly chilled. Brewed for Pride Month, listed as a blonde ale with raspberry and hibiscus.

Pours a foggy, translucent pinkish-red colour, flaunting one finger of bubbly, pale pink-tinged head that fades within a couple of minutes. A serpentine ring of lace sticks to the glass, with a frothy, sudsy collar staying put - looks very obviously like a raspberry beer, but its aroma is more nuanced. Hints of hibiscus flower, grainy pale malt and digestive biscuit, with subtle notes of macerated raspberries.

Balanced, approachable flavour profile - that is to say, it's not just raspberries, the underlying blonde ale does shine through. I'm getting clean, grainy barley malts and a light, doughy sweetness at the forefront, with real raspberry notes present throughout the sip. Hints of hibiscus, herbal tea, earthy hops and raspberry seeds round out the back end, with raspberry fruit & seed dissipating into a mildly fruity aftertaste. Light-ish in body, with middling carbonation that adds some spritz to this brew's smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. A crushable blonde ale that I could drink one after another.

Final Grade: 3.89, a B+. It's easy to glance at this pink beverage and assume it's just another raspberry fruit beer, but Sunshine is actually a darn good blonde. The raspberry seems authentic, integrating beautifully with the hibiscus and clean, malty flavours - there's certainly more depth to this than your run-of-the-mill blonde. I'll be buying more of this for however long it remains in stock, and would recommend it to any BA looking for a light, fruity summer ale to quaff in the near future.
