This traditional Märzen style lager is an elegant malt-forward beer perfectly balanced with a clean hop bitterness. Medium bodied with beautiful biscuit malt notes and a hint of caramel that leads to an off-dry noble hop finish, this beer is a reason to celebrate.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Canned August 7/25. My 10th beer from the Guelph, Ontario brewery, and 3rd for 2026. Ludicrously enjoyed by Sundae the cat, with love...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Aug 7 2025 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a relatively clear orange-amber colour, initially topped with an inch of frothy, foamy white suds that falls off within three minutes or so. A creamy collar and thin cap live on, with a serpentine swath of lace clinging to the glass; looks about right. Malt forward aroma that includes toasted grains, caramel, bready malts and biscuits, with hints of herbal hops.
It's a solid strong amber lager; malty with a kiss of noble hops. I'm tasting bread, toasted grains, biscuits and toffee, with caramel and herbal, spicy hops bringing up the rear. Bittersweet conclusion that dries off in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, with active carbonation that adds a crisp bite to this lager's smooth, satisfying mouthfeel. Well-balanced for the style, and more drinkable than most.
Final Grade: 3.91, a B+. Wellington's Midnight in Munich is better than your average Ontario-made märzen. As a general rule, I prefer festbiers over märzens: I often find the latter to be a little too sweet - and while Midnight is, indeed, a relatively saccharine lager, its dry-ish finish helps its case immensely. Worth a look if you enjoy the style, or just German lagers in general - I'll certainly consider picking it up again next year.

Pours a thin foam head. Orange brown color. Smells and tastes of malt and caramel. It's pretty good. Browned roasted grain alongside caramel flavors. Not as grain heavy as I would like it. Slightly malty sweet. It's just alright in my opinion and would consider buying it again depending if anything else is available alongside it.

Review from notes. On tap at the Ship. The last pint of the keg. Served cold into a pint glass. Listed at 5.5% ABV.
Appearance - A rich amber color with slight haziness. A finger plus of off white head and good staying power.
Smell - malt forward with lots of bread crust and caramel sweetness. Leans to the sweeter side of a marzen.
Taste - Lots of stale bread, light hop bitterness and followed up with rich caramel flavors. Nicely balanced.
Mouthfeel - Smooth and medium bodied with good expressive carbonation.
Overall - A very enjoyable marzen that fits perfectly for the first day of fall.

From a 473ml can dated Aug 08 2025. Poured into a mug. A one finger fine tan head on a clear dark copper. Excellent head retention. Sticks around. Sheets of fine lacing.
Toffee and caramel in the nose. Spicy. The taste follows the nose. Bready. Toasted malts. Mildly hopped with a clean and dry finish.
Medium body and good carbonation. Overall a fine Marzen. Well made and true to the style.

On tap, growler fill from Abe Erb.....pours a lightly hazed amber with a 2 finger frothy off-white cap....cap lasts and laces the glass....Aromas of fresh bread, some toastyness, light herbal tones....rich rounded character....silken mouth feel....Flavor has a big chew on bready toasty malts in front, a little caramel and herbal earthy noble hopping in support....rich wet malty finish, more hop balance near the finish...malty, rich, filling, satisfying....everything a Marzen should be
