This beer is as rich and complex as it’s name sake is hefty. With deep notes of toffee, raisin, and caramel, this full-bodied brew packs all the malty goodness you’d want from a scotch ale.
It’s smooth, slightly smoky finish is like a cozy plaid blanket and while our walrus friend may be anything but wee, 50¢ from each can sold is going to support our local Movember campaign, helping raise awareness for men’s health. So grab a can, grow a ‘stache, and toast to health!

Appearance: Poured with a finger and a half's worth of head which is fairly uncommon I find with Scotch Ale. A solid amount of lace was made before it petered out at the half-way mark. The body is an opaque brown of the darkest variety.
Smell: It really needs time to warm up to come out, but what you get is whisky, raisins and toffee with may a slight touch of currant. Potency is there, it just takes a while for it to show up.
Taste: This tastes like 8% not 6.5% starts with almost a rum like raisin, but I think that's more just the higher ABV showing up to play. Turns to toffee and molasses with a touch of earth and a slight smokey finish, likey they were in fact trying to emulate peated scotch. Thankfully they don't quite manage it, as I find high peat scotch not to my liking, so it's solid in my book. Would have liked a bit more of a fruity presence though.
Mouthfeel: You get a boozy aftertaste, but it's not quite hitting all the note to where I'd say it's whisky. That raisin note I think is throwing me off. It's like a mix of brandy, rum with the smokey note of whisky. That said, it doesn't linger because as I said, it doesn't disguise its higher ABV at all. Carbonation gives it a nice creaminess, so it's a bit of a mixed bag for me on this front.
Drinkability: This stuff is thick, and it very much drinks like a meal, as the style should. This is a sipper through and through, espcially given the ABV, and it does that job well. I just wish there was more to talk about here, like some additional fruity notes.
Final Thoughts: I do like that proceeds from this beer are going to Movember (a prostate cancer initiative). Like an actual walrus, this beer is big, in your face and here to make it's presence known, and also like the walrus that presence is to sun itself on the beach fairly inertly, and then head back into sea. It's well made, and completely serviciable offering, but unlike encountering a walrus, isn't something you'd write home about.
