Brewed as a continuation of our 40th anniversary series, this British-style India Ale pays tribute to the traditional English ales that helped shape Wellington Brewery. Pouring a rich copper with a lasting off-white head, it features bold floral hop aromas with earthy undertones and subtle notes of stone fruit. A sturdy malt backbone brings flavours of biscuit and caramel, balanced by a firm bitterness and a clean, dry finish. We’ve even re-used some of the original ’90s artwork for this special release. Cheers to 40 Years!

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Wellington's 40th Anniversary mixed pack. Dated Oct 23 2025 and served barely chilled.
Pours a muddy copper-brown colour, taking on more of a ruby red hue when held to the light. Nearly two fingers of soapy, cream-coloured head sits atop, wilting slowly over a period of five minutes, give or take. A tight collar and a few wisps of film remain on the surface, with scattered patches of lace left clinging to the glass. Inviting aroma of earthy, tea leafy hops and nutty, toasted malts; hints of toffee, herbs and dark fruits are also discernible.
A robust yet balanced English IPA that definitely doesn't skimp on the malts. Toasted bread, biscuits, toffee and prune are countered by herbal, leafy, earthy hop bitterness; they both persist into the finish, followed by a bittersweet aftertaste of floral, earthy hops and toasted malts. Medium in body, with moderately low carbonation that gently agitates the surface of the palate, making for a smooth and satisfying mouthfeel.
Final Grade: 4, a solid A-. Wellington's India Ale is a fine English-style brew that I'd happily purchase again. My initial assumption was that this was an old recipe that had been temporarily revived, but it seems to be a new invention - either way, I really like it. The malts are quite assertive - not unheard of for an English IPA, but certainly dominant enough to be noteworthy. Just a pleasure to drink all around: I genuinely hope that they start selling this as a single. Maybe draw up a new label first, though - I appreciate the cheesy mid 90s clipart aesthetic, but modern consumers probably won't.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From their Craft Classics boxset at my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. Canned October 23/25. My 16th beer from the Guelph, Ontario brewery, and 9th for 2026. With Sundae the cat...
