Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark bronze amber with a quarter finger off-white head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of bicuit and lightly caramel malt, rye bread and mild berries; malty. Flavor is mildly biscuit malt, red berries and spruce. Berries and spruce in the finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess and tame carbonation. The flavor in this leans more to the berry notes of a red ale rather than an amber. There is some raspberry/cranberry character in the finish. Malt is slightly biscuit, but largely neutral. The kviek yeast is evident, and isn't my favorite for ales, but works well enough here. The spruce is a clear note and makes this interesting. Needs some touching up around the edges, including the carbonation, but has promise as an interesting take on the style. Good to see Cody back in action. His beers are always interesting and his Mollusk Brewery is missed here in Seattle.
