Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark reddish orange with a two finger, somewhat fizzy, khaki head that dissipates to a thick cap with nice lacing. Aroma of candi and biscuit malt, raisins and plums. Flavor is biscuit malt, dates and mild earthy smokiness; malty. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A nice malty dark ale, but I'm not getting a lot of Belgian character, maybe a little fruit from the yeast. Quite malty, it actually strikes me as a hybrid between a Scottish ale and an old ale. Not what I was expecting, but an enjoyable dark malty ale. I'm a malt fan and this hit the spot. Looks great and has a nice mouth feel.
