Floral citrus, sun and fun characterize this American IPA. Flavorful and aromatic, smooth yet assertive with a diverse arrangement of six hop varieties, it’s almost as fun as a day on either Glen Lake!

Canned less than 4 weeks prior to enjoying. Let’s see how it holds up.
The label promises six hops! But doesn’t say which.
Pours a malty auburn with a creamy cap. The malty descriptor extends to the flavor profile, balanced by what I can only describe as a muddled, unremarkable hop profile. Think candied orange, faded hop notes in spite of the beer's youth.

I just can't wrap my head (or taste buds) around IPAs. I tried this Grand Traverse offering because it purports use of six different hops to flavor the brew. I was curious, my previous experiences with IPAs were nightmarish, maybe the hop combo will temper the taste a bit? Obviously one of them is Cascade. I just cannot abide beer that smells or tastes like a pine tree, I would amend the Reinheitsgebot to include banning the use of Casade hops! I've had more bitter beers, and beers that are overloaded with Cascade hops, If you like IPAs you may enjoy this, I didn't. I will stick to my safe lagers and pilsners and wheat beers. The fancy artwork on the pint can don't make the beer taste better! It's a pleasant enough looking beer, but the smell and taste do nothing for me!

Only 3 years into this enterprise (and half of that time in a pandemic that kills people and tries to kill the key part of micros' business plans... i.e., their taprooms), Grand Traverse is doing pretty good with 8 beers and 751 ratings on Untapped. But then, Grand Traverse's owner has 20 years experience in the Northwest... so he knows how to make hoppy beverages and, hence, it improves his chances of overcoming all the many obstacles to opening a brewery.
Does this mean that I suddenly like AIPAs? Not quite. But since I rate relative to the style (which in this case, I do not like particularly), Glen Lake IPA is slightly better than average and slightly better than OK. I primarily am impressed that it is balanced and does not try to overpower with salivating hops and, instead, appreciates that there is such a thing as after-taste and that the finish should be balanced which Glen Lake IPA is.....
But I'm not sure that remote Michigan needs yet another micro. But we shall see what the future holds. Good luck !

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
