Visited Fass Brewery for the first time. This rauchbier poured a deep brown with a nice tan head. The bier had a slight reddish tint with light shining through it. Notes of smoke, malt and bread. Taste of light smoke, roasted malt, breadiness and a touch of chocolate. Perfect amount of smoke...it's there but not dominating in any way. Great mouthfeel, slightly chewy with moderate carbonation. Overall, a very pleasing experience to sample this one.

Pour is a deep amber/brown, crystal clear with a nice cap of light khaki head. Good retention.
Nose is smoked malt (mmmm) hint of bittersweet chocolate, toasted bread crust.
Taste is less smoky than the nose would indicate; its certainly still present, though. Upfront is a subtle mix of bittersweet chocolate, nutty character, toasted bread crust, toffee, all interwoven nicely the a smoky character. The smoke doesn't dominate, but again, is definitely there.
Medium / medium high carbonation. crisp and easy to drink.
Excellent beer.
