A: Pours a dark brick red color. A small white head forms and leaves some lace left behind.
S: Toasted malts, caramel, baked bread. Not particularly aromatic, but what is there is malty.
T: Toasted malt and bread. Caramel malts as well, are all up front. With a burnt malt, sugar character. Sweet and finishes too quickly for my tastes.
M/O: A bit lighter in body than expected. Considering the malt character. Low to moderate carbonation. Not hard to drink, just not something I'm looking to come back to.
The malt character is the main show, which is fine for what it is. Though missing that great balance that Saint Arnold Amber has., and doesn't have the hop punch that something like North Coast Red Seal has. Which just makes me want to have either of those instead.
