Picked this up today. Don't know which herbs or special spices are used, internet searches have been fruitless.
Pours a light golden tone, looks alot like a Pils or Helles. Medium carbonation.
Smells of bergamot(faintly) hints of plum, sweet malt, and a light note of pepper. Fresh grain to be found, honey, overall sweetness dominates a bit. Biscuit, nothing extraordinarily complex.
Flavor follows suit. Sweet, a bit of fruit, heavy now on the honey. light malt, ends with a note of spice, something like pepper/anis. Honey, malt, bread. It is a bit difficult to pick out what the brewery defines as the addition of spice.
The honey flavor is very dominant, almost like a Munich Helles brewed with the addition of Honey. This adds a nice smoothness to the mouth feel, but thats about it.
I was fairly dissapointed with this brew. "Celtic" to me meant a new interpretation of a Scotch ale, or a German Wee Heavy (yeah right). Besides the fact of a misunderstanding of the breweries's goal with this brew, it really is nothing special in any sense of the term.
Upon a bit of reflection, perhaps Celtic refers to Mead, in which the honey-like flavor begins to make sense, but compared with good mead, this also falls desperately short. Can't win them all, and following a great Lammsbrau Urstoff, this really dissapoints

Beer bottle (50cl), tasted 2001.
Appearance : Pale golden color, with white foam head.
Smell : delicate grainy, Light hoppy herbal notes
Taste and mouthfeel : slightly malty, with a bitterness in the aftertaste.
Drinkability : an average beer in the 'spice, herb & vegetable' style
