Had a lot of these many summers ago in germany, and still enjoy when available in my travels. Wonderful malt work with the bready elements hitting the palate first, follow by faint dark chocolate and strong caramel and honey. Nice creamy texture, especially on tap. Perfect for summer days in bavaria!

50CL bottle poured into Spaten seidel
BBE 13 FEB 2012
A- Medium blonde hued body with a rocky 3 finger head that produces little lacing and quickly reduces.
S- Bready, toasty, toffee and biscuity malt notes. Some honey in there too.
T- Malt dominant, lots of toffee and bready malts with honey sweetness. A touch of green apple and hop bite in the clean, perhaps semi dry finish. Alcohol extremely well hidden.
M- Medium mouthfeel, high carbonation.
D- Concur with Bierman9 that this is more maibock like in appearance and finish. Great malt qualities. Perhaps carbonation too high for me.

Being a longtime DBock man, I just had to try this Thorbräu offering. Over the course of 3 visits to the brewpub here (30SEP - 02OCT) I had 4 bottles, 0.5l at 3.50EU each.
My glass was filled with a rich, clear, medium golden hued liquid. Head was off-white, creamy and smooth, though with little lace. Light aromas of bready, toasty malts waft forward, with some florality as well. This one is very smooth on the tongue, and a bit more than medium. Very solid mouthfeel.
Taste has lots of bready, toasty malts with pleasing sweetness. A touch of honey is here, and a bit of fruitiness, though subtle. Hops add a bit of balance to the sweetness, but are in no way bitter. This is a very flavorful offering, though I find it much more like a Hellbock or Maibock, like Forschungs St. Jakobus Blonder Bock. Though I don't think it's a Doppelbock, I'd have this one anytime. Prosit!!

Beer bottle (50cl), tasted in 2001.
Appearance : Dark amber color, with tan foam head (not persistent).
Smell : caramel nose, roasted malt
Taste and mouhfeel : moderate sweet, caramel, little hops notes in the finish.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style German Doppelbock.
