Von C Brewing Co. "In The Grass"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 08/18/21 09:07:40" and sampled on 03/28/22
$4 at the brewery on 03/26/22
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a hazy amber with golden highlights beneath a full head of white foam. The aroma displays grainy golden malt and floral and citrusy hops. The taste is exactly what you'd expect of it based on the aroma. The grainy and bready malt is fully flavored, and a solid bitterness balances it. The hops are strong enough to hold up to the malt but they don't go beyond that, and for a pale ale, as opposed to an IPA, that's a good thing. It's a touch sweet at the outset with mainly the malt showing, but then the hops step forward, followed immediately by the bitterness before you even get to the middle. Ahh, damn it, there's a f'ing bug in my beer! I got him! Spit it out! Spit it out you little bitch! Ugh, I think he's dead; couldn't have drank that much anyway. OK, back to the beer, the head has fallen by now but there's some thin but nice lacing where the initial head once stood. It lingers a bit with both malt and hop flavor in the finish but it is mostly dry and bitter. It's a fully flavored beer from start to finish which is great. I'm going to call it medium bodied but it does lean a bit towards medium-full. When I first poured it it was crisp but it's warmed a bit now and released some of its carbonation and it's got that great, semi-soft, gently crisp feel. All in all it's a flavorful, well balanced and rounded American pale ale. The head retention and lacing could be better but it's not bad.
