really steady porter here, perhaps my favorite of the lot i tried while i was in last week, really compelling stuff, nice combination of flavor depth and drinkability, perfect for late fall that feels more like deep winter, full bodied and fluffy, maybe oat based, with a nice rich dark brown color, a lathery brown head, and a smooth and gentle texture, palate coating without being sweet, just right. nice dark roasted character on the low end, almost burnt, actually maybe a little burnt, but more from the grain than from a long or flawed boil or anything, its earthy, volcanic almost, but then with the bready middle grains and sort of english fermentation profile, its wholesome and hearty and covers a lot of ground without forcing anything. this shows some technical expertise, without being pretentious, and is something i could have stayed and had a half dozen of if they weren’t getting ready to close. really nicely done beer here, a kiss of smoke, obvious espresso qualities in the malt as well, a little raisin as it warms, round and mellow, absolutely lovely stuff here. highly recommended.
