Light in alcohol content but dark in colour, our Scottish Light (or 60/-) delivers a rich and rewarding experience. A slow and low fermentation keeps things clean and crisp, and allows the array of delicate malt flavours to shine. Toasty rather than roasty notes are to the fore, alongside caramel, toffee, a gentle orchard fruitiness from restrained esters, and a hint of peat smoke. A balancing bitterness prevents the finish from being cloying but there’s enough residual sweetness to leave a satisfying mouthfeel that belies the low ABV. This under-represented style works equally well in summer or winter and ages well, making it a great choice for the fridge and the cellar.

Bought my bottle from UtoBeer at London's Borough Market. An interesting find in a good shop.
My first from STF, I went on their website and see a dedicated, thoughtful crafter. I particularly like how they revive fading styles and innovate to create life back into them. Very thoughtful website also... for a 6 year old. And for that, I give them very good Overall Hugs.

SSL (let's call it Scottie) seems a faithful companion. Not trying to lure you into a high ABV elixir, just trying to give you a chance to adjust your mood and deal better with the world than if you were drinking water or even tea. And Scottie succeeds.

Scottie opens with a generous foam, but it dissipates before I'm done. Smells are mostly malt, but the sweet caramel does remind that I won't need dessert tonight. (Does that mean I've reduced calories? Ha!) Tastes are balanced, just enough hops. Medium-mouthed despite the disadvantage of being low ABV. Seems like they have a soft water. I'd like to try this again with lunch in Autumn.
