Tallboy from the brewery; no canning date and served slightly chilled.
Pours a foggy pale yellow colour, sporting an inch-thick cap of smooth, foamy white head that dissipates within two or three minutes' time. A tight collar and filmy cap live on, with minimal lace. It smells of watermelon candy, lemon and sweet apples, with hints of wheat and yogurt.
Flavours of salt water, watermelon and apples come through initially, with hints of lemon, bready wheat and lactic sourness following behind. Notes of citrus peel and grassy hops develop on the back end, with watermelon giving way to faint lactic acid and salt water in the aftertaste. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that feels crisp and lively on the tongue; smooth mouthfeel, with great drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.74, a B grade. Adventure Watermelon is a slight downgrade for me, as I don't feel the watermelon flavouring really adds much to the experience. Sweeter and more candy-like than the original Adventure, which throws things out of balance - which I suppose is probably fine if you're just here for the watermelon. If you're looking specifically for a traditional gose, I'd recommend the original over this variant, but they're both worthwhile sour summer thirst quenchers. Cheers!
