A bright, crisp, golden lager with a pleasant malty sweetness, balanced with a nice floral aroma and slight bitterness. Round and drinkable, this delicious lager is brewed with Ontario malt and hops.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From The Roundhouse Centre LCBO on Howard Ave. in nearby Windsor. Date stamp illegible. My 1st beer from the Toronto, Ontario brewery, and for 2026. Ludicrously praised by Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from TBS; coded H3021 which I hope doesn't mean what I think it means (Aug 30 2021). I mean, 13 months ago, almost to the day? I'm not shocked that TBS was selling old beer, but that's just plain spooky.
Pours a clear pale gold colour with some fine sediment hovering throughout its body; it's briefly capped with just over a finger of frothy, sudsy white head that fades within a couple of minutes or so. Some stringy lace is scattered about behind, with a tight collar and filmy cap remaining in place. The nose consists of grainy pale malts, cereals and a very light honey biscuit sweetness, with hints of grassy hay.
If this lager is actually as old as I think it might be, it's held up reasonably well IMO. The flavours follow the aroma: grainy pale malts, maybe a hint of biscuity sweetness, with hints of earthy, floral hops and hay rounding out the back end. Light-medium in body, with relatively low carbonation that gently brushes against the palate; a little watery, but it's still thirst-quenching and easy to toss back quickly.
Final Grade: 3.55, a B grade. Helios Helles Lager didn't blow me away or anything, but it's passable for a Canadian-made helles lager. I'd love to try this again, and will keep an eye out for fresh stock - I mostly blame myself, because old craft beer tallboys and TBS go together like cheese and wine. I simply didn't bother date-checking, even though I (should) know better.
