Just when you though there's no more room for another IPA, Shippingport Brewing is taking the Louisville beerscape by storm, flooding the area with their hoppy goodness. Make no mistake, this Marge is large!
Pale gold and with a nudge toward honey amber, Marge IPA releases a frothy ivory cap before layering the nose with a honey dipped sense of citrus, light tropical fruit and peppery herb. Sweet to start, the early flavors are sweet with those prescribed honey, caramel and graham cracker nuttiness.
The hops spring onto the middle palate with pink grapefruit and orange peel in a classic IPA way just as the malt sweetness starts to fade. While hints of apricot, mango and lime decorate the peripheries of taste, the beer quickly develops a bitter bite of pine, citrus peels and peppery hemp.
Medium bodied throughout, the beer's dry demeanor allows for good drinkability and thirst quenching while retaining a supportive malt support and a long aftertaste of bitter pine and citrus. A low level hop-derived astringency adds a spicy bite to the bitterness for a pleasant and assertive session.
