Van Henion Kolsch is a classic German-style ale brewed true to tradition with German Pilsner malt and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops. This beer pours light blonde in color and has a crisp, refreshing finish. When the dog days hit, make sure a few cans of Van Henion Kolsch are at the top of your secret stash.

Clear pale golden brew with plenty of foam in the Maredsous goblet. Spritzy and sharp on the tongue. Aromas of cedar and orange. Pleasant warmly malty taste with a smack of hops. Slightly sweet with a distinctly bitter finish. Flavors of mild citrus with grapefruit in the aftertaste. This is more like a Session IPA than a Kölsch. Quite drinkable if you think of it like that. From the 12 oz can purchased at Bridge & Tunnel beer store. Dated 5/13/25.

VAN HENION – KOLSCH - German Style Beer 5 abv
I do not usually drink Kolsch beer. Its light like a bud beer but not sour but mellow with an citrus apple cinder taste. A good beer for a hot summer day and one to give to a beer drinker that’s put- off by big bold beers.

surprisingly substantial mouthfeel - a bit more than a typical Kolsch. For me, that’s a plus. Touch of malt sweetness…not overly sweet. If there were just a bit more Hallertau hop presence this would be closer to a “5”.
Excellent, at any rate! Van Henion is so good at crafting tasty German style brews.

Taster flight at Brewery. Pale straw color, silky white head. Light bready aroma, biscuity. Taste is soft, bready, crisp, touch of lemon at the finish. So tasty and very well done.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, straw-yellow color with a small, white head of foam. It left minimal lacing. It smelled of caramel, toffee and floral notes. Sweet caramel taste with biscuity malt and some light bitter notes.

Pour is crystal clear, just a whiff of head, skim coat of lacing. Aroma is light yeasty, not much else. Taste is crisp and clean with just enough carbonation liven up things. It's modest bitterness, supported by medium dry malt and a hint of minerality. Very refreshing. 5% ABV makes it quite quaffable.

Pint at the Westside Taphouse in West Salem Oregon.
$7.00.
Pours a clear honey golden body. Small bubbly white head.
Aromas..sweet malts, yeast and strawberry?. Nice.
Sweet taste..but not overwhelming..balanced by some spicy light bitterness.
Good clean mouth feel.
A good Oregon example.

Look: Pale yellow and clear with a frothy head that builds and noisily retracts to a lid, leaving decent lacing behind
Aroma: A whole lot of flowers, straw, freshly cut grass, fruity esters, and a honey-like sweet note
Taste: Pilsner malt, straw, and grass come together to start it off and soon after, floral hops trickle into the mix – flowering tobacco, Japanese snowbell, and cherry laurel stand out among them. Finishes with fruity notes and a little honey
Mouthfeel: Light but full, very clean throughout, high carbonation, and finishes clean and crisp
Overall: This is good stuff. I’m a huge Kolsch sucker so wanted to try these somewhat new-to-me folks’ take on one and it’s tasty. The carbonation is a little higher than I typically encounter with the style and it can overpower or detract a little but a small knock against an otherwise well-made and quaffable Kolsch
