the lighter side of stout here, looks almost more like a brown ale, and is lacking a deep roasted barley profile i generally look for in the style, but its not bad beer, modeled on a cinnamon roll, done with quite a bit of cinnamon, left intentionally a bit sweet i assume, and perhaps also with some vanilla in it, although it presents more like generic sweetness from the grain to me, not bad, but i dont want a lot of this, even on a chilly winter night below zero, its not as cozy as it sounds, kind of light and without the structure it kind of wants, and one of the few i propose might work better as an imperial. the cinnamon aroma is warming and the flavor is good, especially with all the chocolate malt in this, its a nice combination, but the beer is a little one dimensional on the grain side, needing a lower end counterpoint to the sweet middle malts. i get more vanilla to this as it warms, also a cola note, and no real spiciness to the cinnamon despite it being as obvious as it is, it almost has a baked vibe to it. this is light on body but stays on my palate awhile after each sip, brown sugar and caramel then, still some milk chocolate, and the cinnamon is real good, thats what saves this from being another overdone desserty one, it keeps this grounded. maybe im being a little too harsh, this tastes good, i just think it could easily be improved with a more complete fermentation and a little heavier handed dose of roasted barley or specialty dark malts. still, this place was a lot of fun to visit, recommended if you are in the billings area!
