Cool looking goat in sunglasses on the can is a plus. This seems solidly made with a complex, sweet malt driven nose and flavor. Chewy texture for a lager with a mellow, clean finish. Light carbonation brings out the character in this interesting sampling from Guilford.

Poured from the can into a pokal style glass.
Bronze and golden body colored almost hinting ruby red too but manages to stick to classic light bock colors. Off white topped heada with about two fingers height but settles to a good tall collar.
Excellent aroma. Crispy malts and toffee mixing with sweet caramel and a hint of even milk chocolate. Excellent balance with a real clean scent too.
Palate brings it down to earth in a simpler form. Light bodied with touches of minerality mixed in subduing some of the more classic flavors. Mid palate still hits excellent toffee and crispy waffer chocolate notes, but some good soda water finish particularly tingly on the aftertaste. Faint hint of bitterness and earth as well, but more towards gaseous flavors.
Very solid Maibock overall.

It's May so guess it's about time to break out a few Maibocks. This one is labeled as a Hellerbock but it's still a Maibock even though the appearance is a richer amber like you may see in traditional bocks. Appealing aroma; doughy, mild toasted malts, moderate toffeeish sweetness. Flavor stays focused on the malts. The breadiness overshadows the floral hops and light bitterness. The finish is slightly spicy, slightly peppery without being a distraction. Overall, just really enjoying this offering from Guilford.
