I enjoy the concept of a vanilla porter. The roasted chocolate properties of porter are deliciously counterbalanced by the sensuous spiciness of real vanilla. Id love to see more brewers experimenting with the style.
Tucks effort is clean and commendable. The van-porter flavors are nicely orchestrated and the overall character holds together well. I wouldnt mind a more muscular showing of vanilla though, as theres plenty of room to develop this element further before tipping the balance too far.
Tucks Vanilla Cream Porter is neither excessively sweet nor bitter and shows no evidence of a weak porter propped up by a diversionary flavor. The taste lines are clean all around. Recommended.
