Pours a dark murky brown with a tight tan head. Nose has light spice and Saison yeast, candied sugar well balanced, more spice, lemon. Taste is also candied sugar forward, strong malt base, much less spice, faint Saison yeast, falls short of nose. Body is full with aggressive carbonation and a crisp semi dry finish.

A brown murky clouded brew, a dark off-white fluffy head that leaves much lacing and good curtains.
Smelling sweet and spicy, ripe banana, Christmas cake batter.
Starting sweet spicy bread, then banana, cardamom, clove and bitter orange.
Medium carbonation, small bubbles, oily and sticky, a dense body, a short coarse dryness.
Very spicy, very heavy sweet. The hops do not really balance that. But there is a lot of action in this one.

According to the label this is a "black saison"...
A: Pours dark brown with a large tan comapct head that slowly sinks to nice lacings (I'm grading this as a "black saison" - otherwise 1).
S: Hops and yeast, spices and sourness. Some dark dried fruits. Rich in citric notes.
T: The blackness is obvious, dark roasted malts. Then there is some yeast and spieces. Hay and even fresh cut grass. Lots of citric notes, along with other fruits - green apples.
M: Long sour dry aftertaste. Body is light to medium, while carbonation is rich. Sadly, the alcohol is very present.
O: Black saison is an interesting experiment, but it can't compete with the ususal blonde ones. Not a bad Saison, but with paler malt it would probably have been better.

The beer pours with a fizzing sound. The finger thick head is airy and beige. Good head retention, almost no lacing. The colour is dark, dark brown, almost black (80 EBC), the liquid is clear. The beer is bottle conditioned.
The smell is phenolic and hoppy. Belgian yeast, porter-like roasted notes. Wheat bread. Caramel. Soap and somewhat citric bitterness. The flavours are a bit rough with hints of alcohol.
The taste is yeasty with lots of Belgian flavours, dried and fresh exotic fruits, some tart wheat-hints. Roasted, almost burned malts. The bitterness is mild to strong, the citric hoppy notes stays in the background. Hints of wax and lemon candy. Mild to medium body. The aftertaste brings more heavily roasted flavours with hints of grilled meats. There are also some vegetable notes of cucumber, green tomatoes and even a hint of chili. The finish is yeasty and quite bitter.
The carbonation is very strong, the large bubbles quite mild. The liquid is semi-smooth.
An interesting take on the Saison style, with strong American ale influences. I miss some of the rough flour-flavours of the Belgian originals.
