Christian Seeland was one of the first brewery owners in Independence. This pre-prohibition porter uses flaked corn and molasses. This gives tribute to the days of Seeland's brewery.

On tap at Allerton Brewing, Independence, IA; served in a taster glass. Pours the color of black coffee, with light tan highlights and a tan head. Good retention, with some streaky lacing. Roasted malt dominates, with notes of char, licorice, cocoa, and coffee on the nose and palate. Mouthfeel is a bit lighter than expected. Quite bitter, with notes of char lingering on the finish. Excellent porter, highly recommended.
