Brasserie Sacrilège "Répit"
33cl brown glass bottle coded "DDM: 04/2028" and sampled on 27 November 2024
€4.40 @ Cask Beer, Porto, Portugal
Notes: Labeled as an organic Saison Houblonnée at "5.7% VOL" with Chinook and Columbus hops. The French "Répit" translates in English to respite: a short period of rest or relief from something difficult or unpleasant. The label features what looks like a child on his knees wearing a dinosaur costume but i don't know how that comes into play. It's certainly a lot more than a respite, and actually something very livening and inspiring. It's a lightly hazy yellow in color beneath a full head of white that settles readily. Plenty of carbonation. Aroma of brettanomyces with lots of orchard fruits, leather, "horseblanket", wet straw, mud, and a hint of something metallic. The flavor follows with an added vinous character and the hops coming through: spicy, resinous, citrusy, and earthy. The combination of sweet malt, acidity, brettanomyces funkiness, and citrusy and spicy hops is fantastic and this is a really interesting beer that straddles the fence between wine and beer. In the mouth it's medium bodied and spritzy with an elevated, natural, and fine-bubbled carbonation. For the price you can't go wrong with this one for fans of wild ales.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
