Thanks to Ozzylizard for this one.
Deep brown pour with a khaki colored cap that lingers at just shy of an inch and a half before slowly retreating to a thin layer. Good retention, very subtle lacing.
Nice bitter espresso pop to start before some smooth, sweet caramel notes chime in underneath.
Flavor also is coffee/espresso dominated. But there is a pleasant base of malts: caramel, cocoa, and a note that's almost fruity.
Mouthfeel is fine for style, a tad warm.

16oz can received from Ozzylizard in BIF

Poured at about 50 degrees F into a teku glass

Pours a deep brown - very hazy with a finger of fizzy soda esque khaki head that bubbled away quickly. 4

Big espresso and bitter coffee nose - perhaps a touch of roast, but mostly clean grounds. 4

Mild carbo and a touch of alcohol burn, but not lasting and evolves into a chocolate, coffee, and roasty grains. 4

Some soft creaminess and dry lightly bitter body. 3.75

Overall a quite nice coffee stout! 4

Iron Furnace Coffee – from Trails to Ales Brewing. Four pack of 16 oz cans. In reefer at their brewpub, Franklin, PA. Acquired 07/09/24, $ 15.11 (Including tax), $ 0.236/fl oz. Reviewed 10/09/24 (Review 3371). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 56 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 61.3 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Brown (SRM 20), hazy.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. Under direct light, same. When rear-lite, light penetration at the edges only – red-amber.
Head: Average (Maximum 3.4 cm, aggressive center pour), tan, high density. Reduces to a 0.3 cm crown and a thin complete cap.
Lacing – Fair – One frog looking out of the water with mouth partially open.
Aroma – 4 – Expresso. No yeast, no malt, no hops. No ethanol (10 % ABV according to the label).
Flavor – 4 – Follows the nose – when served cold at the brewpub – expresso and no stout. Instant oral, esophageal, and gastric burn. When served at the proper temperature range, the expresso takes second place to the stout. Transitory sweetness. Ends lightly bitter with coffee and roasted malt, a bit of dark fruitiness, and mild gastric warming. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium; approaching creamy; soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated can) I had two of these on tap yesterday with some spicy food so I had to bring some home to really taste. When it was allowed to reach the proper temperature range, sans interference from spicy foods, the flavor was distinctly improved, allowing the stout flavors to supersede the expresso.
