33cl bottle at The Fiddler. Clear orange pour, coarse grained white head. Smells of caramel, malt sugars and a bit of citrus. Taste follows the same notes. Medium body, low carbonation and a bitter-swert aftertaste

500ml bottle poured into wine glass 8/4/14 from notes

A clear copper with a few suspended particles kicking around, finger of beige foam has decent retention leaving random patches deep down the glass

S orange marmalade, lemon rind and lots of butterscotch and soft caramel, not sure how this is possible but I get some chocolate of all things

T orange peel, some biscuit, even for an English IPA she's malty, not as worried about my sanity because I'm not tasting chocolate in this DIPA like I was smelling, still not quite up to par for the style

M fairly full bodied, creams up nicely, mellow for 65 IBU's, orange cream on the finish, perhaps a highpoint for this brew

O nothings off but a little lame for the style, malty for a DIPA and its fresh so I know that's not the issue

well below most hoppy beers I've had in NZ, this one never really took off for me. I'm sure there's more hidden gems to uncover but this ones a little meh...

Bottle: standard 500mL brown bottle with an ordinary macro label. Pretty boring stuff.

Appearance: a reddish-amber colour with a good collar of creamy white. Fine carbonation throughout the profile. Leaves a decent lace too.

Aroma: not bad, if not as heavily hopped as I would have expected considering the style. Definitely more sweet malt- orientated rather than hops, which si a bit disappointing.

Taste: the hops pick up a little in the mouth - at least enough to be discernible. Comes across pine and citrus, with again a funky sweet malt characteristic. Drinkable but not brilliant by any means.

Aftertaste: not much happening here - very little in the way of hop bitterness, which is not unexpected due to the lack of hops throughout.

Mouth feel: again a bit lacking here. Not quite enough carbonation to carry the hop flavours through.

Overall: a fairly disappointing IPA, particuarly for a 'double'hopped'. It isn't a bad beer, but it is more malt-driven rather than hop-driven. Reasonably drinkable, but not worth the higher price for what is effectively a pale ale. Higher ABV is masked, without much benefit.
