Deschutes has brewed three fresh hop beers in 2006, and this is one of them. This is centered around the perle hop, and the brewpub menu boasts that they used the hops from Doug WeathersÂ’ farm in the Willamette Valley. The beer has an almost golden, lager-like appearance, with a nearly white head that exhibited moderate retention and lacing. The smell was full of bright citric and piney hop scents. On the palate hop and yeast flavors abound before the malt tastes show up. There is something almost very slightly Belgian tasting in the yeasty presence of this bear. The mouthfeel is light and not as substantial as many of Deschutes other brews. Average drinkability, unfortunately not as compelling as the other brews from my favorite Oregon brewery.
