Blurb from Deschutes: "Brewed with American organic malts (60L Crystal, Chocolate, and 2-row), German organic Tradition hops, and our favorite Belgian yeast strain, this beer is a true melting pot of flavor. During conditioning, we infused real vanilla beans into the beer for added depth and complexity.
IBU's:34"
Black, unless I hold it up to the light, then some glowing reddish brown. Big ole frothy nitro head on it.
Vanilla car freshener or vanilla extract aroma. Some coffee/cappuccino in there too.
The nitro makes everything uber-smooth. Sugary vanilla. Crispy burnt malt, with a coffee bean type bitterness. The vanilla is just a bit to pronounced and artifical tasting, despite their quip about it only being fresh vanilla beans.
It was served ice cold, bah. But as it warmed up, some flavors other than vanilla poked through. The malt profile is quite tasty! Good slow drinker. Split this with the missus' and i'm glad, just seems too rich. I bet it would be gooood as an icecream float!
