From the first whiff I know I'm in for a funky yeast strain. It's either the yeast or the way the yeast is allowed to work. But the immediate punky aroma lets me know that this is an ale with intrusive yeast esters - one whose yeasts feel compelled to dominate rather than delegate. It's the bane of many a golden ale.

Getting past this can be a challenge, but the rest of Fairweather does hold together nicely with near lager-like refreshment and dry graininess. It's never entirely clean tasting, but the finish has an intriguing mustiness with punchy bittering and an expression of grain husk. The body is light golden with protein haze, sustained carbonation, and a thin film of head.

Not a bad beer at all though not a hop showcase. In the end it works, but it would work better with a diminished or cleaner yeast presence.
