Poured from tap at Deschutes Portland:
Pours a really nice dark copper hue with quickly vanishing head and little lace; good carbonation.
Nicely aromatic. The use of chestnuts was odd, but it works, giving the beer a sweet roasted nut note along with a core of cereal grain, brown rice, spice, and hops. Very nice and complex nose.
Palate is a little more straight to the point. Cereal grain, nuts, spice, and a light hint of hops.
Texture is nice, medium body, good grip and decent finish.
Compared to standard beers, this is definitely a 'different' taste. Compared to other gluten free beers, this is one of the better examples.

On-tap at the Portland brewpub. I ordered out of curiosity to see the current state of gluten-free beer, but it hasn't improved much. The malt flavor is still too sweet and the beer leaves an unpleasant sharp feeling on my tongue. There's a toasty note, but not much hops despite the advertised 42 IBU's. This beer had good and bad moments, and I applaud Deschtues for taking on such a tough style. Still, I don't envy any beer lovers with a gluten intolerance.
