The beer list at Deschutes gives a detailed explanation of the origins of this beer's name. Too much detail really, and I can't remember the bulk of it. But this dry stout is brewed with chocolate nibs and is finished with real chocolate. Given the demure nature of dry stouts, the chocolate has ample room to take hold and does so heartily. Both the aroma and flavor are enhanced by airy chocolate character, while the essentials of the dry, nitro-charged stout beneath it remain intact. A modestly sweet finish with a slight essence of peppermint draws it to a close.
Most chocolate stouts I've seen are not built on dry stout recipes. But N2 is very successful in this regard. It is charismatic and smooth with a lively nitro presentation. 43 IBU.
