Sampled at the Deschutes Public House in Portland, this draft only beers was one of the more memorable ones from them
Here is a little more about the beer: "...Made to commemorate the coming of long nights and short days. This dark ale, with light chocolate undertones, was brewed with roasted black barleys and dark crystal malts to create a dark color while keeping the lightness of an ale. Nugget and Willamette hops were used, adding a balanced and full flavor. Enjoy this beer while waiting for the dark and damp winter to pass."
A-Very dark brown that is not quite black, 1/4 inch creamy light tan head that did not last two minutes, very minimal retention or lacing
S-Coffee, smokiness, toasted malts, roasted notes, light hoppiness, and caramel
T-Starts off with a bitter hop flavor, then also dry in the middle with some smoky flavors and roasted malts, burnt caramel and more hops make up the finish and cause it to be quite dry as well, some dark chocolate later on with a little bit of espresso carrying over into the aftertaste
M-Bitter, smoky, dry, and toasty mouthfeel, thin to medium bodied, high level of carbonation, taste did not linger too long
D-Could have a drank a few of these with ease, light feeling and no alcohol in the flavor, thought this would be a lot more filling after the first sip I had but it mellows out as it warms and becomes very smooth
I had never heard of this beer, it is fairly new and in my opinion is a mix between a stout and a dark ale, but Deschutes' bartender classified it as a low alcohol stout, I would drink this again regardless of what style it is, recommended
