Collaboration with Alesong Brewing & Blending
This collaboration with our friends at Alesong Brewing & Blending was born during the shelter in place period of April 2020. From there, this big barrel aged imperial brown ale grew up during the pandemic as it aged for 18-months in brandy and bourbon barrels. Turns out, good things can come from 2020!

500 ml bottle into a snifter. Bottled 11/12/21, had 10/21/22.
Pours a fairly clear amber color, with a short head and some light foamy lacing. Aromas of caramel, malt, bourbon, light brandy, vanilla, some stone fruit, light oak. Flavors of bourbon, some brandy, caramel, malt, vanilla, some raisins, light oak. Smooth, a very good lighter medium body, appropriately carbonated.
Fairly straightforward, but nicely executed. The barrels are delicious- mostly bourbon, but the brandy definitely has an impact, and while the base feels a little lighter, it holds up well. Liked it.

I confess I was worried that the brandy would over sweeten, so glad my fears were NOT realized, instead boosting the dark fruit notes to new heights. That big dark fruit leads, plum and date especially, with strong brandy, licorice, bourbon and molasses making up the nose. Taste is boozier, not as complex with the dark fruit and bittersweet chocolate. Feel is malty, then a wave a sharp booze, then rides out with malt and earthiness without that earthy flavoring though. Goes down easy for 13.5% The wife liked it
