Had this on tap at the Deschutes brewpub in Portland. Wasn't exactly sure how to classify the style on this, as the colour would be somewhere between typical strong pale and dark ales. It was brewed with hibiscus, but I don't think spices were the main angle of this beer, so didn't want to classify it as a spiced beer.
Pours a clear amber-brown, I suppose maroon, colour with off-white head. Smells incredibly sweet of brown sugar and candied fruit, with some mild spices. Tons of alcohol in the nose. Alcohol also fairly upfront in the flavour, but not more than you'd expect for 13.7%.
