A bottle left over after GABF judging and given to me as a reward for my volunteer efforts. Pours a finger of off-white head over a cloudy dark straw-colored liquid. Looks like a wheat beer. Clove. Piney and light fruits. Floral earthy hops and wheat. Wheat doesn't belong in this beer.
Tastes clovey with sharply hoppy bitter and flavored with supporting malt that fades away to a fairly dry finish. Hop flavors are lemon and tin-like saaz accompanied by a very clean grapefruit pith. Hop bitter is fairly clean, but grassiness and oily resin rise to linger in the aftertaste because other flavors fade to dryness. Esters are pears and green grapes. Not a kolsch. A decent beer, except for the 'hefe' characteristics.
