Served on tap at the Deschutes pub in Portland.

Nearly black in color with a nice creamy tan head. It settles to a skim layer with a little lacing.

Aroma is rich and roasty with chocolate and raspberries.

The flavor is similar, almost a raspberry chocolate chip icecream beer. Rich, thick, roasty, sweet, and luxurious.

Mouthfeel is fill bodied, creamy, and very low in carbonation.

Overall a really delicious and special beer. I'm glad I got to try it from the source.

On tap. Pours a black color with a thin ring of brown head. No lacing. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, and raspberries. Tastes like chocolate covered raspberries with some espresso. Really flavorful beer. The raspberries and chocolate go great together. Espresso aftertaste. A bit of a light mouthfeel for the style but it works well. Overall, this is a great and unique stout I am glad i got a chance to try. Worth seeking out.

On-tap at the brewpub in Portland, OR.

Pours a deep, dank, rather flat and dormant black hue, with a ring of fine but inconsistent moch bubbles. Lacing is patchy and partial. Body is thick: it leaves fine streams of carbonation when tilted. Looks good.

Nose is dark, toasty and almost smoky. It has a strange savoury, almost meaty character to it, along with a smoothness in the integration of it all. There's no real sweetness overall, and certainly no hint of the raspberries. But it's very pleasant overall.

The taste (oh boy) is where it's at. Powerful roast character, leavened by a silky soft body. Chocolate comes through in poignant hints, along with masses of sweet, juicy and mildy biting and acidic raspberries. The fruit blends deeply with the cacoa chocolate character leaving a devilish and delicious darkness, a smooth but sinister synergy. Wow.

The finish drifts off, while the raspberry and roast still combat each other for supremacy on the palate. In a way, it's almost sexual. Gorgeous stuff.

Feel is lighter than expected, but still pleasant.

Fantastic stuff. Raspberries provide such a wonderful counterpoint to the deep toasty and undoubtedly big stout. Really enjoyable, and complex stuff.

Live review

A: on tap served in a tulip, pours black with barely any head, lacing sticks on the edges as a dark brownish red haze. A swirl releases a decent amount carbonation

S: not too fragrant upfront but with a strong swirl the nose comes through with a dark, sweet fruity aroma

T: a fairly light malty body with strong fruity and dark chocolate presence. A taste of dark raspberries lingers on the palette. Very tasty and drinkable. At around 8.5 abv the alcohol prescence is barely apparent. As the drink warms, the flavors come out even more giving the beer an even more fruity taste. A great dessert beer.

O: such a treat to visit portland and try this beer. I was told it was brewed as a on off for last weeks fruit beer fest. Delicious!
