This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells very coffee forward, but over roasted and very bitter, with dark chocolate and cinnamon.
I expected a bit more from this one, given that it came out from under the Twelve Percent umbrella. The intense roastiness of the coffee, and the evident astringency, really clashes with the cinnamon here – there’s not enough sweetness to balance all of that out. I don’t get a ton of maple, but I do get a little bit of soy sauce umaminess. The barrel also gives this a sort of smokiness that is also clashing.
This is medium bodied, inky and thick, with a pronounced booziness.
This was a bit of a bummer – I couldn’t finish my pour. It wasn’t horrible, but I expect a lot more from a brewery at Twelve Percent.
