Poured from 500 ML bottle into a Rastal tumbler at 61°. It pours nearly ink black. The medium-mocha-colored head dissipated quickly leaving a ring and clouds at the top of the glass. Its smell is vibrant with notes of maple syrup, cocoa, vanilla, toffee, and nuts. The taste follows but the rye whiskey and bourbon are far more noticeable and add a touch of sourness that balances the maple syrup. The roasted pecans are also more evident in the flavor. The mouth feel is viscous and oily with low carbonation, and the 13.1% ABV is warming. Overall, Marcescent is a well-crafted Imperial Stout. Due to the booziness - both in flavor and ABV - it is a sipper ideal for dessert.
