from Untappd and the micro's website--
Medium to lean bodied Amber Ale. Inspired by French farmhouse ale traditions, the Biere De Garde gets its name from storing (Garde-ing) the beer. This results in a well rounded Amber ale, like a Saison but with more malt character.

Also on tap at The Belgian Beer Cafe; being my night to try local Belgians. Both this and Bonehead's Wit were served a bit cold. (But that's how they like their beer here in Australia; so I should get used to it.)
King River's rendition is close to traditional: amber, malty, minor spicing and modest enough that the food can play. The only improvement I can suggest here is the yeast could be more lively... but that is hard to keep in this climate. So overall and enjoyable brew.
As for my micro-review of King River, they are very thoughtful brewers for such a young age (I'm guessing four years old.) First, they are thoughtful enough to keep a dying style... particularly one I like. Second, their restaurant has a thoughtful menu and it is clear that they brew and for their kitchen and do pairing with it. Third, they are in a thoughtful setting. I almost want to come visit them, but they are a three hour car trip. Can't you be thoughtful and open a gastropub in Melbourne?

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
