This is a "bock" version of a Roggenbier, thus Roggenbock. Fermented using classic Munich yeast we normally use in our wheat beers and a wonderful layering of spiciness from rye, clove and banana from the ferment.

This was purchased at Chas Cole Cellarbrations in May 2025 and drunk in July that year. When I put the beer in the fridge at home, I noticed it was already six weeks beyond its best-by date...
L: Hazy, thick-looking copper brown in the glass with a thin, cream-coloured head. The trails of slow-moving bubbles rising up the glass add to the impression of thickness.
S: The nose is creamy toffee, mild spices, fallen and overripe fruit, and some minerality.
T: The taste is toffee, molasses, overripe orchard fruit, rye spiciness, alcoholic warmth and earthy spices. The finish is long and sweet, and the aftertaste further evokes fallen fruit. There's the warmth in the throat and chest upon swallowing that any good bock will provide, and the alcohol, which is clearly present, provides a nice counterpoint to the fruity and peppery sweetness of the malt and hop bill.
M: The body of the beer feels as thick as it looked, almost as though there's a touch of gelatin in the finished beer. Carbonation and carbonic prickle are low.
O: At 2.7 standard drinks and with the alcohol clearly present, there's no chance of this beer sneaking up on you. It's loud and proud in its combined rye and bock heritage, and has done a good job of honouring both. Considering this was three months past its best-by when I drank it, it's held up very well.
Cheers!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
