On draught at the brewery. Served in a snulip glass. It pours a hazy, golden-orange with a half finger, creamy, ecru-colored cap and modest lacing. The nose is thin with notes of caramel malt and more citrus than I expected. Its taste is dry, nutty, earthy, and quite bitter. In fact the bitterness seems greater than the posted 39 IBU. What's lacking in the flavor is the caramel/toffee usually associated with the style. It's moderately bodied with pleasant carbonation and the 5% ABV is appropriate. Overall, Winnie would benefit from a stronger malt presence and more toffee in the flavor. Behr just opened and I'm sure that this ESB will improve as additional batches are brewed.
