i think its pretty generous to call this one a farmhouse ale, sure they may have used a cultured saison strain and let it run hot, but there is nothing rustic or farmy about this beer at all, its thin, phenolic, and woefully generic. i know these guys are new and i shouldnt be too harsh, and i also know i did this to myself by ordering it knowing it would likely be this type of saison, but this isnt very good, and its the kind of saison that doesnt hide flaws well, super simple on the gain side, pale pils type malt and maybe a sprinkle of wheat, really light in color and body and taste there, and its only minimally hopped, so for me the weirdness of the ferment seems especially exposed. dish soap and molten plastic to my nose, some light lemon and white wine notes if i am being more generous, cotton candy and bubblegum, green apple, some light tang too, just weird, overdone, misunderstood, hard to drink. the rest of it is fine, the carbonation is alright and there is a fruity hop profile that would be nice with a better yeast profile, but its hard to get past the ferment here, amateur in a bad way and overall a beer in need of an overhaul. i hate when beer like this gets called farmhouse, it just isnt. not a great first impression for me to blue raven beer...
