On tap at the brewpub. First time drinking, or hearing of, a Black ESB.
The beer pours a black color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of bitter roasted malt in it, which is really all that is coming through. The flavor is made up of a lot of bitter, astringent dark malt notes, as well as some burnt malt and a hint of pine. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. The astringent and burnt notes really take away from what seems like it could have been a good beer.
