It's a new year, and that means new beer.
We couldn't be more excited to share our newest release, Joyleen. This is our take on a traditional German hefeweizen and it is just delightful in every way. We blended wheat malt and our house pilsner malt with a touch of Hallertau Mittelfruh hops before fermenting the beer with a Bavarian Weizen yeast strain. All the classic characters are on display here with a balanced profile of banana and clove spices from the nose to the finish. The wheat provides a full-bodied mouthfeel while the high carbonation provides a snappy acidity that rounds out the finish. Prost!

Can from Market of Choice.
A hazy orange with a dense, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. The nose is great. Fresh baked bread, grainy wheat, clove, banana and a mild lavender note are all present. Fresh and vibrant. The palate opens with a blend of wheat, mild wheat tannin-like bitterness, a real, rich, soft banana flavor with moderate spice character - there's freshly ground cloves, a little lavender and even a touch of pepper. When hefeweizens are this fresh, they have a yeasty pungency that is surprising if all you've had are older imports. A hair watery, but otherwise, this is quite excellent.

Pours a finger of fizzy white head. Retention is subpar but the head leaves a good film. Lacing is nonexistent. Body is deep gold, starts with a medium clarity but turns hazy once the bottom of the can is poured in. Looks poor.
Nose is pretty bready with forward notes of banana and clove. Smells really nice.
Flavor is bready with a spritzy character, reminiscent of citrus, finishes with considerable banana.
Carbonation is elevated. Body is relatively light. Bitterness is low. On the drier side. Crisp, but the mouthfeel actually comes together a little thin, there is no soft or fluffy backbone here. Doesn’t really drink like a hef.
Drinkability is good.
Overall a nice enough beer, but I’m not being wowed at any point. I like a fuller hef than this.
