Drunk fresh at the brewery in June 2022.
So if you're not an Aussie you won't know that this is a play on Australia's number one selling macro mid-strength beer. It's an entry in Australia's most competitive beer segment and nails its target perfectly.
It looks watery, and will likely be written off by craft beer aficionados as water-flavoured beer extract. But it is designed to be drunk in bulk in cloying humidity with refreshment and, yes, alcohol delivery in mind. But as a mid-strength beer, it can do that over four or five beers, and that's exactly what it would do, if allowed.
To mark it objectively, appearance is a 2. It presents as washed out and watery, a Budweiser clone if ever I saw one.
The nose is utterly neutral. There's maybe the slightest sour mash there, but that's it. But you shouldn't be expecting anything more from this beer.
Taste is exactly as it should be for this style. There's a very clean malt body with a slight floral hop presence. It could be drunk by the most ardent macro drinker without complaint. It finishes slightly watery, but it's not offensive and is again right to style.
Mouthfeel presents more carbonation than is evident from the glass, and there's a definite carbonic prickle left in the mouth, throat and chest.
Overall the sum of this beer is greater than its parts. As I've mentioned a few times, it does exactly what it says it does: delivers a refreshing, easy-drinking beer with a tropical climate in mind, aimed at the vast majority of beer drinkers who aren't after an IPA or tropical ale and who just want a clean, inoffensive and easy beer. All in all, a job well done.
