Pours a deep brown with a cocoa colored foam that is between milky and fluffy. Good retention with layered clumpy lacing.
Nose is solidly roasted malts, mild sweet notes along the lines of caramel, brown bread and molasses. Some undertones of dried fruit poke in as well.
Flavor is consistent with the nose. Nice smoked malt notes, some of the sweeter notes as mentioned above, and a really traditional fruit medley that includes subdued notes akin to plums, stewed cherries, tobacco, and a slightly acidic bitter flavor.
Mouthfeel is full enough for style, low carbonation and finishes with a slightly earthy and acidic "click" in the back.
